Registered Nurse – OBGYN Ward Job Vacancy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
JOB DESCRIPTION
Manages patients care in allocated area ensuring a high standard of care is provided. Provides surgical (pre and post-operative), postnatal care, breastfeeding advice and support to women, their babies, their partners and families. Works within a team of professional and medical staff that includes doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers. Rotates shifts to meet patient care requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical activities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients in the Inpatient ward
- Perform initial and reassessment of patients in the department, including electronic fetal monitoring using CTG and central monitoring system (ie OB TV)
- Provide high standard care to all specialties within the hospital’s scope of practice
- Initiate Intravenous Therapy as per doctors’ orders
- Demonstrate skills in routine care for newborns and rooming in with mothers
- Facilitate medical assistance and provide patient care in emergency situations
- Act as Team Leader in the absence of the Charge Nurse and delegate tasks according to skills and scope of practice
- Monitor early progress of laboring mothers before transferring to labor ward, interpret fetal heart rate, and notify Physician when appropriate for progress or problems
- Follow IV protocols as per hospital policy/guidelines
- Perform post-partum care of mother, perform fundal massage, monitor vital signs, blood loss as needed, and promote newborn/parent bonding
- Prepare mothers for cesarean sections and provide pre-operative and post-operative care to all patients requiring surgical procedures
- Actively promote and assist mothers with breastfeeding, basic newborn care, and patient education
- Perform nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety, and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique
- Foster and facilitate peer teaching activities in a clinical setting
- Maintain and update all relevant patient documentation/medical records as per hospital policy and procedure
- Participate in new nursing staff orientation to the wards and Quality improvement projects and KPIs
- Complete required nursing competencies annually/or as per policy
- Demonstrate an economical approach to the utilization of equipment and supplies while assisting the head nurse to maintain an appropriate ward stock
- Responsible for checking crash cart and maintaining inventory checklist of medications, high alert medications, narcotics, and Hazmat items through the use of Material Safety Data Sheet as per hospital policy
- Ensure preventative and ongoing maintenance of equipment is carried out, reporting all failures or deficiencies to the appropriate department head
- Demonstrate strict adherence to all hospital policies and procedures, including fire safety, patient safety, infection control, and other precautionary measures
- Take responsibility for professional clinical practice and actively involved in updating and continuing education.
Administrative activities:
- Foster and facilitate peer teaching activities in a clinical setting
- Demonstrate ability to perform under pressure
- Maintain and update all relevant patient documentation/medical records as per hospital policy and procedure
- Follow the reporting mechanisms/chain of command in the nursing services department to ensure all patient care issues are accurately and promptly reported
- Participate in new nursing staff orientation to the wards
- Participate in Quality improvement projects and KPIs
- Complete required nursing competencies annually/or as per policy
- Demonstrate an economical approach to the utilization of equipment and supplies while assisting the head nurse to maintain an appropriate ward stock
