JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties & Responsibilities:
The OR Nurse develops and collaborates with the staff as needed for developing policies and procedures for the unit.
Assist the surgeon and other healthcare staff during the operation contributing
to quality patient care and constant support in patient recovery.
Comply with CBAHI standards and other regulations.
Facilitate the availability of appropriate personnel, equipment and supplies.
Organize patient transportation to/from the OT to the recovery room and supervise all postoperative activities to prepare the OT for next scheduled operation or emergency.
Implement the hygiene, sterilization, asepsis and disinfection protocols and procedures at all times, before, during and after operations, to ensure the safety conditions of patients and staff.
Ensure that the Operating Room is prepared with all necessary supplies, implants, instrumentation and equipment.
Operationalize and participate in continuous quality improvement and risk management programs at the unit level in a collaborative manner with multi-disciplinary colleagues.
Direct proper sterilization of operation room & equipment in specified conditions as per instructions of infection control.
Daily assessment of availability and functionality of all tools and equipment.
Ensure compliance of SOP’s particularly on infection control and waste management in the Operation room.
Develop policies and procedures for nursing staff and ensure complete implementation.
Monitor fiscal budget to control operational and capital expenditures while monitoring and adjusting staffing patterns to improve unit productivity.
Prepare accurate records of patient history and recovery charts.
Monitor implementation of Infection control program & ensure standards are strictly applied in the unit. (e.g. hygiene and use of personal protective equipment).
Manage the performance of the nursing teams including staff development, performance goal setting and regular performance reviews to meet the hospital standards.
Devise an effective patient handover process & review documented handover records between nurse and the unit/ward nurse at the time of transfer; or between nurses at change of shift.
Provide education to nursing staff to ensure nursing standards are consistent with evidence-based practice.
Qualification & Experience Requirements:
Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree.
Master Degree is Preferred.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Qualification; PALS, ATLS is highly preferred as well.
Current Registration in the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties or at least Dataflow is done.
Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience of nursing services in OR.
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of regulations established by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties related to health-care practices.
Highly effective communication skills and ability to coordinate with other clinicians and executive staff.
Clinical expertise in nursing services including, but not limited to, initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), IV line & central line monitoring.
Immediate critical nursing judgment abilities.
Understanding of principles & standards of aseptic techniques.
Technical skills to accurately operate the latest medical equipment
