JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensure nursing staff working in the neonatal intensive care unit are certified in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

Ensure total patient care as assigned according to the core standards, organizational values, established policies and evidence-based practices.

Strict directions to ensure availability of nursing staff in the pediatric intensive care unit at all times.

Comply with CBAHI standards and other regulations.

Devise an effective patient handover process & review documented handover records between pediatric intensive care nurse and the unit/ward nurse at the time of transfer to a lower acuity of care; or between nurses at change of shift.

Conduct assessments of neonates at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation.

Monitor patient hemodynamic and respiratory status records; interpret findings and develop an accurate action plan.

Performs and maintains IV therapy in neonate’s medication administration, fluid and electrolyte management.

Directs the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care programs;

works collaboratively with associated patient care units to optimize clinical and operational outcomes for the pediatric patients.

In collaboration with administration, develop the annual budget based on nursing department using variance analysis; analyze financial information monthly, complete & submit reports with appropriate recommendations.

Adjust systems with NICU team coordination as necessary to meet budget or productivity targets for cost effective quality care.

Supervise NICU nurses in performing basic nursing procedures such vital signs monitoring; accurate documentation/charting; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for newborn infants; and the ability to start and terminate an intravenous (IV) line.

Assists in preparation of performance evaluation of all staff.

The NICU Nurse Manager develops and collaborates with the NICU staff as needed for developing policies and procedures for the unit (e.g. policies and practices related to infection control).

Develop and monitor systems to assure cost-effectiveness by participating in the selection, utilization of materials and supplies & monitoring charges.

Ensure nursing staff in the neonatal intensive care unit receive training and education according to standards & requirements.

Assist physicians in the different procedures performed in the neonatal intensive care unit including securing central lines access, using pulse oximetry, recognizing critical ECG changes including arrhythmias, placing central lines, arterial lines, umbilical arterial or venous lines.

Ensure neonatal intensive care unit has adequate equipment, supplies and diagnostic services such as ventilators, suction apparatus, airway sets, crash cart that includes defibrillator, all emergency supplies, and medications as appropriate to neonates.

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree.

Master Degree is Preferred.

Current Registration in the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties or at least Dataflow is done..

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Qualification.

Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Skills and Competencies:

Abilities to respond in critical & emergency situations.

Knowledge of current federal and state regulations that apply to quality standards of Neonatal intensive care unit.

Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.

Immediate critical nursing judgment abilities.
