Job Description and Duties

Under the supervision and direction of the Principal, the Teaching Assistant will provide services in the classroom and community to support the classroom teacher in the education of deaf students.

Under guidance and supervision of the certified classroom teacher, work with students for small group lessons, individual instruction and large group instruction. Instruction may occur on campus or in the community.
Assist in the preparation of graphic and written teaching materials and keeps routine records.
Assist in bus duty, before and after school, lunch duty as well as recess supervision.
Assist in supervision and escort of students around the campus, including to and from assemblies, cafeteria, recess, and infirmary, as well as off campus with fieldtrips.
Operates classroom equipment; tutors students and grades objective student work indicated by teacher.

Working Conditions
Subject to fingerprinting and criminal record clearance by the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation and Tuberculosis clearance. This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.

Special Requirements
The position(s) require(s) fluency in the American Sign Language language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.
