Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Information and Digital Literacy Coordinator, a faculty position, will provide strong leadership in the development, delivery, evaluation of information literacy instruction by library faculty, and in the overall assessment of the library’s instruction program. The incumbent will work to enhance students’ learning and critical thinking skill development while enhancing and offering state-of-the-art delivery of the LALT 1020 course and other instruction offered by library faculty.

The AUC Libraries and Learning Technologies School holds the largest English-language research collection in the region and are an active and integral leader of the University’s pursuit of excellence in all academic and scholarly programs. LLT holds an array of primary materials, archives, special collections, rare books, and AUC records that are critical to research in the many areas of study and are of great importance to researchers in the region and abroad. LLT is a teaching unit with a Library Instruction Course that is a pass-fail core requirement for all undergraduate students at AUC and it is part of the AUC liberal arts core. All AUC graduates are expected to have passed the LALT course to complete graduation, regardless of their field of studies. LALT 1020, the core requirement library instruction course, is central to the student success work conducted by LLT. The course is an opportunity to further student success, graduate work, and lifelong learning in a global society were information is fundamental in private and professional realms.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Information and Digital Literacy Coordinator, a faculty position, will provide strong leadership in the development, delivery, evaluation of information literacy instruction by library faculty, and in the overall assessment of the library’s instruction program. The incumbent will work to enhance students’ learning and critical thinking skill development while enhancing and offering state-of-the-art delivery of the LALT 1020 course and other instruction offered by library faculty. The incumbent will also lead and work collaboratively with a team of instruction librarians to develop and provide research consultation to the AUC’s community. This position plays a key role in advancing strategic priorities of the AUC Libraries.
- Provides strong and creative leadership, management, administration, coordination and supervision of the library’s research and instructional services unit.
- Leads the development of information literacy at AUC in collaboration with the instruction team and the core curriculum program, including the Dean of the Academy of Liberal Arts.
- Collaborates with departments and programs to integrate information literacy into courses in both traditional and online formats
- Oversees the creation of effective digital and all learning materials or objects and coordinates the development and maintenance of information literacy tools such as video tutorials and LibGuides
- Collaborates with faculty across the University and serves as liaison librarian to different academic departments hinging on their academic specialization.
- Administers, evaluates, and oversees the research consultation functions whether in-person, online, or by telephone and participates in the chat rotation
- Mentors instruction librarians in the development of their teaching skills and establishes a professional development program that is essential for the performance and development of team members following teaching rubrics and other benchmarks set up by the Unit, the Associate Dean, the Dean, or the Provost.
- Conducts the evaluation of library instruction and other activities within the Unit.
- Oversees and conducts the development of the assessment that measure the impact of library instruction on student learning and evaluation of the overall effectiveness of instructional and research support services.
- Stays abreast of innovations and best practices in teaching information literacy skills and applies or adapt those as needed at AUC.
- Contributes to Library committees, activities and to the University through faculty governance, committees, councils, task forces and other working groups
- Participates in the development and application of policies and procedures that ensure the effective and efficient operation of the library.
- ALA-accredited Master’s degree
- Minimum 2-5 years of leading library instruction
- Demonstrated experience with planning, delivering, and assessing information literacy education in academic libraries
- Demonstrated application of information literacy concepts and trends, in addition to pedagogical skills and assessment strategies
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty and a diverse student body throughout the University
- Strong in-depth knowledge of a wide range of electronic and print information resources
- Strong service orientation and flexibility
- Demonstrated effective communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well individually and as a member of a group
- Second Master or PhD degree desirable (in progress is acceptable)
- Arabic Language Skills
