JOB SUMMARY:                                                                                                                                 

Provide and administer anesthesia with the full range of anesthesia methods and techniques and responsible for providing the care for his patients maintaining a high­ level of professional performance in accordance with:

  1- Professional Saudi medical ethics.

  2- Hospital medical by-laws.

  3- Laws of Ministry of Health in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other.

Applicable regulations according to the departmental quality plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1- Providing an effective care and maintaining an appropriate quality plan using measurable performance improvement standards in the field of anesthesiology.

2- To plan and execute the daily clinical work in his designated area.

3- To take night and week-end duties.

4- To perform accepted procedures commonly used to render the patient  insensible to pain during surgical, obstetrical and other pain producing clinical procedures and to relieve pain associated with different medical disorders.

5- Will support life functions during the period in which the anesthesia is administered.

6- Shall provide surgical consultation related to various other forms of patient care such as respiratory therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, pain relief and fluid and electrolyte disturbance.    

7- Practices within the framework of clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines and criteria.

8- Discusses with concerned consultants from other departments the condition of any patient who is high anesthetic risk, explains the expected outcome to patient and/or legal guardian and obtains the required investigations and consent before administration of anesthesia.

9- Takes appropriate therapeutic measures in -emergency situations for assigned patients with Anesthesia complication.

10- Participates in the on-call Rota of the department for patient care and admission.

11- Consultant has a leadership role in the organization performance.      

12- Supervision of duties of assigned junior staff and registrars.

13- Provides leadership for performance-improvement functions in the process of  measurement, assessment and improvement of both clinical and non-clinical process as part of the Departmental Quality Plan.

14- Active participation in Continued Medical Education (C.M.E.) through educational hospital activities (morning report meetings, grand rounds, clinical tutorials and seminars, journal club, radiology or clinical-pathological conferences). Also, through National and International meetings, conferences and symposia.

15- Active participation in training program related to his field and  organization within the hospital for training of junior medical staff and in-service training for nursing staff and technicians.

16- Continuous update of his knowledge in the medical field as well as continuously upgrading level of skill in his/her field of profession.

17- Participates in educating patients families on patients situation and the methods of care and treatment.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:

Required: 

Saudi Board, Arab Board, Either American Board or Canadian Fellowship, or German Board, or French Board, or FRCS, or Equivalent.

Desirable:

Higher qualifications in his specialty, if any.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

1- Minimum five (5) years experience Post Qualification.

2- Current valid license to practice medicine in the after specialty.

3- Registration in Saudi Medical Council and/or Current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.

Desirable:

1- Additional experience in a sub-specialty

2- Academic affiliation.
